About
Wide World News covers the biggest events in the world, twice a day, for readers everywhere.
What we cover
Wars and ceasefires, elections and coups, summits and sanctions, disasters, markets and the climate. Twice a day our editors pick the story with the widest consequences and our correspondents go deeper than the headline: what happened, why it matters beyond the place it happened, what is still unknown, and what to watch next.
Our coverage
Around the clock we follow the reporting of news organisations from every region, including the BBC, Al Jazeera, DW, France 24, RFI, the South China Morning Post, The Hindu, CNA, Africanews and UN News. Through the day our correspondents write short reports on the biggest stories as they break, and twice a day they go in depth on the story with the widest consequences.
The Brief
Every in-depth story opens with The Brief: what happened, why it matters, what we don’t know yet, and the decisions, deadlines and data that will show where it goes next.
Editorial standards
We report what the sources support and say so when something is unconfirmed. Figures, quotes and places come from the original reporting, which is credited and linked at the end of every story. Quotes are verbatim. Death tolls and other contested numbers are always attributed to whoever gave them. We give each side’s position in its own words and don’t name private individuals caught up in events.
Pictures
Our pictures are illustrations of the places and subjects in the news, not photographs of the events themselves, and every caption says so. They never show real people.
Corrections
Facts change as stories develop. When we get something wrong, we correct it promptly and note the correction on the story.
